Prairie Garden

a proposal for Montrose Station, Chicago Transit Authority, 2006

The proposal envisioned the creation of two virtual gardens, a "front yard" represented by the station entrance where images of prairie grasses and flowers would printed directly on the glass entry glass panels and another series of indigenous flowers printed on a tile wall in the interior beyond the turnstiles. These would be barely visible from the outside.

Like every well-designed garden, there was to be a sense of discovery.  Commuters waiting for the bus in front of the station, would experience the piece differently than those who stepping inside to go up to the El.
